I've had this pocket watch for awhile now. I knew it had to have belong to someone in my family once upon a time. But never really looked into it or anything.
Today I was messing around with it and I noticed that the back looked like it opened as well. And it did ! When It opened I saw my Great great grandmother's maiden name engraved into It. She lived from Dec, 1889 - Feb, 1919.
Needless to say (but I will anyways)... Let the research begin.
It was produced by Elgin National Watch Company which operated in Illinois from 1864 - 1967. The watch case is a Gold filled (approx 10K or 14K) Hunter case. It has some light scratching yet is in very good condition for being 108 year's old. It still latches very tight. All the pendant settings function well. It still keeps time (I'm testing how well now). The innards are super clean (wish I could have added more pictures). I'm no watch expert however I think this is a great find and a great piece of our family history that I can pass along to my children.
