    A mystery...
Even if described as blackened sterling tested and guaranteed, it has rust! (See pic #4, just after cleaning of more than a century of grime...)

I had to use chemical oxydation remover on the chain, and of course, it was rather dull after this treatment, and some rust remained between some links...

    Kyratisation had to be done!
Dark grey permanent marker on all the chain (but not on the pearl set balls!), then a good buff with insect wax (used as treatment on jade for final aspect).

    Chain is 127cm long!
    Lorgnette is 11.3cm by 2.7cm.

The 14k mark together with the Carter Howe maker's mark is only inside the dogclip.

A gunmetal long chain, without the gold dogclip and the pearls:

It seems I got mine rather cheap :-)

Oh very nice Pascale! I love both, two of my favourite things, a gunmetal long chain and a lorgnette:-)

      Hi Judy! Thanks!!!
I love gunmetal too, even if I'm not too fond of long chains, and lorgnettes or optical things are also an area of collecting for me ;-)
Gunmetal is difficult to improve if the condition is bad...
I'll perhaps have a try with stuff called "Zebraline" .

Thanks for all your loves, Caperkid, dear Mani, Thomas, Ken, Aura, SpiritBear, Jancal20, Jewels1900 and Vetraio too :-D

Now I will have to find my chains and make sure they don't have any rust!!
You sure put a lot of effort into this one to have it looking so nice, good job Pascale :-) )

Gary, hi friend! Thanks for the tip, I don't use ketchup anywhere (hate the taste...)
Vinegar seems to remove rust, but would damage the tiny pearls...
      Thanks for the link!

Judy, good to check your chains, rust can arrive so fast... Thank you for your kind comment, indeed this one demanded some efforts :-))

Many thanks to all 17 lovers :-D
