James H. Newkerk's Liniment, possibly from Hurley, New York, as a forum-member (elsewhere) found a man by this name in the 1855 census.
Though the census said he claimed no occupation and was boarding with a farmer, his family ran a store where this liniment may have been sold-- Hence my problem in finding information on it.
The bottle is typical of the 1850s, blown into a snap-case (line across the entire bottom) and grabbed with a glass-tipped punty rod, thus leaving the pontil mark over the bottom seam for the snap case.
The meaning of the embossed 'M' is unknown.
Last pic is of how it was when sold to me, with so much soiling in one area that you couldn't tell there was no label left. It had begun to moulder at some point, so I used a moist cotton swab to gentle remove a lot of 160+-year-old grime.
I was doing the same earlier today, trying to clean up another old label, though 40 years newer than this.
