mahogany glass-doored bookcase

Here's another piece of furniture that just HAD to come home with me from Mom & Dad's, instead of being sold at the auction. [or, more accurately, one that I didn't actually catch in time, thus *did* really havta buy back at the auction, but nevermind that... <lol>]

This mahogany (solids and veneers) glass-doored bookcase sat outside my bedroom door for most of my childhood years. I never really thought too much about it then -- only now realizing that its actually a rather nice piece despite being slightly battered over the years. Still kinda amazed, even, that I never managed to *break* it, all those years ago... <LOL>

It stands 43" high, 36"w and 12"d. 4 shelves with shaped edges inside are adjustable. A rather plain overall design, with simply curved feet around its base and a small horizontal strip of decoration above the doors, along with shaped front edges of its sides and around its top. Small brass pulls on each door, with brass hinges and ball catch hardware. The glass in the doors is *not* absolutely flat, BTW, showing ripples when viewed kinda sideways which aren't really apparent looking at it 'front on'. (but can sorta be seen in 1st pic, on the open door)

On its back the number "236" appears written in (original?) white chalk, along with old green magic-marker writing in Mom's hand identifying it as having been "PURCHASED BY [Dad] AT RUBENFELD SALE SEPT. (?) 1957".

[incidentally...Mom and Dad were married in 1957, so chances are this was one of their first pieces of furniture in their then new home, before I came along]

I have no idea whatsoever who the "Rubenfeld's" were, but havta imagine they'd owned this bookcase for at least a few years before they sold it -- thus I'm guessing it is a product of the 1940's.

NOW, I've gotta figure out what *I'm* gonna fill it with...I don't have any particular plans to "restore" it even despite its current slightly shabby condition, mostly because I already have WAY too many other "projects" in line... <LOL>
