I was given this set which contains a William Rodgers knife, pair of pliers and a tool which I cannot identify. Does anyone know what this set is used for or what the unidentifiable to is? Would love to know
Rigging tools for a sailor. The needle like tool is a marlinspike used for splicing lines.
I feel that the marlin spike is more designed for repairing fish nets.
Rigging tools for yachtsmen/sailors.
The marlinspike is used for splicing rope. The handle doubles as a shackle key/spanner.
Whilst it could be used for repairing fishing nets there are more specific tools for that like a netting needle.
You will note that the blade of the knife has no point ("sheepsfoot") this is to prevent the knife from damaging sails whilst being used. The blade of rigging knives are typically very thick so they can be hammered on the spine for cutting through very thick rope/hawsers/mooring lines etc.
I won't argue with anybody who can use "Whilst" in a sentence. LOL !
