This Atkins No. 53 is a brute. With only 4 1/2 teeth per inch on the 26" blade it would take a strong carpenter to rip cut a board. These circa 1900 saws were notorious for having a faint etch but this saw has a beautiful full etch. The plate is straight as an arrow and has zero pitting and the hand carved handle is as nice as you will ever see. It is just the way I bought it for $5.00. One of these days I will get around to cleaning the tarnished blade. This is a fine example of an early Atkins saw before they started stamping the handles. Generally I'm not an Atkins fan but this saw is a beauty for a 120 year old saw.
Cool old saw. I will keep an eye out for one like that.
