1917 photo of Grace (according to the back) peeling a potato. I love these old photos of nurses. This nice clean photo has a divided postcard back and dates the photo to November 14, 1917.

I can see a stem on top of what she's peeling - an apple maybe? I honestly do not think they are potatoes. There is too much gleaming white linen around for one thing. Be it a potato or an apple, a nurse is the last person who would be peeling it on top of a table like that.

I do not wish to offend anyone, however this photo seems very 'staged', just not real somehow.

      Where is her nursing cap?

The back of the photo reads:

      To Mother-
      Nov. 14, 1917
This is the remains after the Henry Ford was through with me. Do you recognize it?
      Lots of love,
      Grace

The Henry Ford may be referring to the Henry Ford Hospital which opened in Detroit, Mich. in 1915.

Quite curious indeed!!! I see all your points Gillian and then for the note on the back...hmmm really interesting and would love to know what the heck that is all about! It's still a cool photo.

yes Roy lol . I had to resort to peeling potatoes when I lost my job .
Very cool PC ! love it and I also believe it was staged and was meant as a a bit of a joke . That the nurse didn't have servants anymore or lost her job . Interesting but think it was meant to amuse .
