I am so excited about this piece...see what someone missed Valentino???
Pow wow score last night. There is a signature on the back R.L. I have the feels good on this one but thought I'd see if anyone knows who the R.L. is?
I know it's Zuni...that's obvious by design and engraving on back. Did I score or what?!? Ahhh, you know I did ;)))))
Enjoy!
Update: Not the first time I've been wrong, and hopefully...not the last. I'm sure it won't be the last ;)
This pendant was made by Randolph Lateyice. Here is so far the info found about him:
Randolph Lateyice, Zuni, active 1960's, born 1940's to 20012. His daughter is Beatrice Hattie. He does have museum pieces all over the Southwest.
I have heard of Beatrice Hattie, but it's been a long time since. I'll have to look her up when I get a chance.
Also, I found it interesting that the black stone in his piece here apparently is jet, not onyx! I suppose it must be somewhat an easier task to cut the jet than it is to cut the onyx.
Still loving this necklace!!!
Thank you for the love fort and Hel1. Much appreciated!
Very beautiful ! Will you wear it ?
Hi Mani! Yes ma'am, wearing it now. I know I could make a profit on it but it is just so very perfect...I don't think I'll be selling this one. Even more reason to keep it if the maker is Robert Leekya Sr. It just screams his name to me! I got to the pow wow so late but I knew I needed to go. I was honestly disappointed in most of the vendors products of repro's, many had actual plastic instead of real turquoise. I was pretty shocked. Only 2 of the vendors had good old stock and the one I bought this from is local...a very good thing! I've got to get to a book store to look this piece up. Having sold the Dishta piece I had, even tho I didn't care for it on me so much, makes me know I will really keep this one. The colors work well for me. How funny that both of the greats have been Zuni! Thanks Mani...and good to see you! xoxo
Mike, Judy, Jlmam, Bonnie and Kevin, thank each of you for stopping in and looking/loving! I appreciated it.
I love it ! and glad to hear you will wear it and it won't sit in a box :-)
Hear some information on the Zuni tribe Sue...

Mani, that's right! Not sitting in a box and so not getting sold! This one is unique...because it's mine LOL! I really do love it...can you tell ;)
Rick, that is a great site. I will definitely be reading the whole page soon. I'm interested to learn all I can, thanks for the link. I've not seen this one before! Great to see you here ;)
Thanks Mary, I'm afraid you may have been quite disappointed. I found out that last year was outside but this year was not. I am not sure why it was this way, but I am sure they had their very good reasons and although the college there is beautiful and the auditorium was large, 2 story even, I could see the drummers covering their ears at times. I would love, love to take a New Mexico run anytime girl...let's pack it up!!! ;)
OMG bratjdd I haven't seen you in forever!!! Great to see you again... No, this is strictly a Zuni sunface. It's pretty amazing that they have kept that design to themselves. Surprisingly so but they have as far as I know. Besides, on the back, below the initials here it says ZUNI. No problem kiddo! Thanks so much for stopping in and for the lovely comment! I know you meant well xoxo
Caperkid, thanks for stopping in and hitting that love button! haha how was your trip??? Hope you had a great time!
And Miss Virginia, it has been a very long time since I've seen you too! I am so glad you are still around here. I hope you are well and did you see my comment on your Mc....arg, I forgot the name of that freezer...more over it's the name of the shakers and it just slipped right thru my brain! It will come to me just as I start to drift off into a deep sleep tonight! haha Thanks for coming by! xoxxo
thanks for the love vintage fran and aura! much appreciated!
Fantastic pendant!!!
Fantastic buy Sue! And that's from someone who knows zero about native jewellery.
It is perfectly wonderful; size, colours, balance, graphics. i can see why it's a keeper!
Katherine, thanks for stopping in and commenting. It's been awhile right?!? I mean common', this year is already almost gone...can you believe it? But it is good to see you! Thanks
Karen...So glad you stopped by I found out the who's and who's about it! I've been tryin my best to get back here and post that and to finally mark this as "Mystery Solved"!!! Yey ;) I do absolutely love this piece...you've got all the all about it right. Heeeey now...did that make sense? Yes, I knew you would understand that hahaha...xoxo I'll update above.
lzenglish, thank you for loving! I appreciate that.
Thanks for the love Newfld. Appreciated. I came across another little sun face that of course I got. It's just the face but different than all I've seen before I'll post once I get my pc back up and running.
Thanks again Ms Mani! I got another little sunface...it's even older than this one. I'll get to posting it soon!
Love this! I love Zuni jewelry but I do not have much at all. My mom is the one who wears it all the time. She is all into Sterling Silver and Turquoise and Coral, for as long as I can remember. It is cool that this has Jet instead of Onyx :)
Tlynnie1942, I have to say, I was surprised that it was jet myself! Everywhere, just about, you see these listed as onyx! Not true. They are all made with Jet! Thanks for stopping in and commenting!
Jlmam, betweenthelens and bratjdd, thanks for loving!!! Appreciated :)
