These two cool old serving spoons both came from the thrift store on different occasions, I've had the shallow ladle for awhile, but just snagged the slotted spoon today. :-) They are both incredibly similar in numerous ways, but are in fact made by different companies. Both are about a foot long overall, and I think the handles are made of bakelite.
[edit: I have since confirmed the bakelite, via the "409 test". :-) ]
The ladle is stamped "A&J STAINLESS STEEL MADE IN U.S.A." with a diamond-shaped logo in the middle of its bowl, and its slightly darker red handle has a rounded edge profile. It additionally has "STAINLESS STEEL" embossed in a small flat spot near the middle of the metal portion of its handle.
The slotted spoon is stamped "CORONA QUALITY STAINLESS STEEL" with a crown-shaped logo between its handle rivets, and also "MADE IN U.S.A." around its handle ferrule. Its lighter colored red handle is very similarly shaped, but has a beveled edge profile.
I'm thinking both of them are probably about the same age, maybe 1950's or a little earlier. Either way they're both very nicely made utensils, and I'm glad they're both now in my kitchen, even if likely mostly just 'for show'...? :-)
THANKS VERY MUCH for the loves to fortapache, TassieDevil, valentino97, and aura!!
Between these two pieces and the handful of flatware I posted earlier today...well, looks like I now officially "collect" red bakelite handled kitchen utensils, too??!! <LOLOL>
Thanks so much for your <love> yesterday, Trey! (and so sorry about that temporary noise...)
