A recent addition to my shelves, I'm not sure what this is - my thoughts are this is a part of either a desk or smoking set - but the colors appeal to my eye, made up of multiple colors of confetti-sized frit suspended in pale blue transparent glass. It is a small, flat holder for something standing just under 2 1/2" (6 cm) tall. The lozenge-shaped foot measures 1 1/2" (3.5 cm) by 3 5/8" (9 cm); the rest of the piece is 1 cm. narrower in both directions. The underside has a raised in-mold "Czechoslovakia" identification.

Yes, probably a cigarette holder and part of a smoking set. Very vibrant colours. RER(Bob)

The spatter creates an intriguing visual effect, as it looks like it is falling (like multicoloured snow). The spatter at the top of the item is spaced out against the clear ground, while it seems to build up in a compacted mass at the base, suggesting an accumulation. Obviously this distribution of spatter reflects the technique, but it also creates the appearance of frozen movement, which I guess is a fairly accurate summation of what glass is - a supercooled liquid that is actually still flowing.

Thanks everyone. An interesting observation from IronLace - I live in the Los Angeles flatlands where snow only happens in the distance so I see the precipitation in the opposite direction :+) - more effervescent, like the de-gassing tundra.
