I just got back from Vermont where i found a few things in the antique stores around where my family lives. i like the look of this American tonalist painting i found. i can't find a signature, but there's a name and address in Enfield CT on the back - Anna G. Carmony. but i think that was the original owner. there was another interesting painting behind this one - on metal which i like too. i'll post that one separately.
Frame looks more Art Nouveau. Tag looks like 1900-1930s tags I see.
A damp cloth, testing it of course beforehand, could really help brighten this piece up, I'll bet.
thanks SpiritBear. i really like this painting - for what it is and how it is. it looks like it was on the wall of a little cottage on the lake for the past 100 years. this one has a particularly beautiful sky and reflection.
it does have an art nouveau frame, and i was thinking about putting a slightly more ornate one on it. i have a lot of them.
