If you have original hard ware, such as the lock, check closely at the lock it may have been stamped.
    Mine is April 1877
All wood is good interior good company label bad.
4 wheels on bottom. One is missing. Front leather finger lift missing
I first bought it to turn it into a Steam punk computer case until I saw the 1877 stamp on the key hole lock. I will post the original company label next time.

The 1877 is when the lock itself was patented, not when the trunk was made, the latches on the front were patented in 1882 and the embossed alligator tin was patented in 1885, so your trunk was made some time after that, 1885 to 1890 or so, greendog.

Thanks greendog. I have a pic of the label, but it is so faded maybe a better photo software can bring it out.
