This is an egg I picked up recently at an auction signed with Russian letters. It has a rose cut diamond in front and a real pearl dangling. The gold looks real but not sure and the hinges look old. The head of the hook seems soldered on with no opening. The outside is enameled. Not sure what the Russian letters mean do any of you know?
It IS Russian. Two letters on the locket are HV in Cyrillic, Paschal greeting short for "Christ is Risen!" (Hristos Voskrese).
But this is not Russian mark on hook. There was well established system of marks in Imperial Russia (common 84 fineness for silver and 56 for 14K (583) for gold. After the revolution it changed to .875 for silver fineness.
