These are recent additions to my Bengel collection, well I think they are Jakob Bengel they certainly do look like his work. It’s funny how things like these two pocket watch chains came up for auction at the same time, I can’t remember seeing watch chains by Bengel before, or I never looked out for them. The oblong black and white sections in the silver pocket watch chain are not enamel, I was wondering if they could be pearl and onyx.
Jakob Bengel started manufacturing pocket watch chains around 1873 in Idaho-Oberstein. So these two could be early pieces by Bengel, they have a very Victorian look about them with the engraving especially on the silver coloured one.
Many thanks for looking.
