I recently acquired these lamps from my father in law. They are gorgeous solid marble and they are heavy! They have to weigh at least 25 pounds a piece or more. I have reason to believe they may have been made in the 1970's, possibly earlier, but I am not at all sure of that. I realize that my description is extremely vague, if at all informative, but I was hoping that someone out there might have some kind of knowledge about my new lamps, or knows something that I do not as to how I can find out information on them. Thank you
These are usually made of alabaster which has a grain which looks like marble. I believe yours are alabaster. I have seen the exact same grain on alabaster lamps of this type. Alabaster would let the light show through if there was a bulb in the bottom part, whereas marble is opague. I see many of these lamps on auction sites even saw one the other day. Great find !
