I have a 14k rose gold sports medal from 1904.from new york
It is from the ST.Bartholowmew club
and the hospital CORPS. 8th Reg. N.G.N.Y
it tests to 14k rose gold with a mine cut diamond and its the size of a half dollar and weighs 18.0 grams
I have been able to find out vary little about the trck and field event
that this was for...Was told that it could have been given out to the winners of the events that determined who was going to the Olympics in 1904..?????and representing that athletic club... Contacted the club but no information on who won this..... was for a 800 yd run...maybe someone has seen any like it>>>>??????

N.G.N.Y. stands for the National Guard of NY. I found this piece intriguing so I did a bit of research. In 1904, there were big athletic events held in the NY Armory in Track and Field, sponsored by the 8th Regiment and the St. Bartholomew Athletic Club, which was located on 42nd Street. Your source was likely correct that this was a qualifying event for the Olympics. The 1904 Olympics was held in St. Louis, and very likely whoever won this medal participated in the Olympics. Spalding's catalog of 1905 does not show the winner as belonging to the St. Bartholomew Athletic Club, but if you read through, you might find a list of all participants. Perhaps the winner of this medal participated in the Olympics with the NYAC, New York Athletic Club, which I believe did produce a silver medal winner for this event. Contacting them might be a good lead. In pursuing your research, do not confuse with St. Bartholmew's Church clubs. Shouldn't be too difficult with a bit more research to find the exact name of the person, who won this medal. Wonderful piece, good luck!
