    The large vase is 12 1/2" tall and the smaller one is 6" tall.With it is s trinket box that's a deeper red color.The only piece I can't figure out is the cup with handles.The person I bought these from didn't know how old these actually are.He said he got both vases in the 1970's and the trinket box in the 1980's along with the handled cup.He thought the cup was the oldest piece and so do I.I couldn't find another cinnabar cup like this anywhere.Does anyone know enough about Cinnabar that could help me date these.

      My experience with Chinese red cinnabar pieces is what other more experienced collectors told me, and also what I noticed when I had several pieces;

      Cinnabar is name for a laquer decoration which used to be multiple applications applied on a object, letting them dry, which could take several days, then it would be carved by hand with motifs, some very fine.

      The older pieces are much darker and also have collected some grime in the crevices, because it is fragile you cannot clean it, except maybe use a fine dry brush.

      The more modern cinnabar applications are much simpler and have a plastic type of composition, this leaves then brighter and cleaner. Post 1950, I would say, is what we find today on the resale market. There are quite a few that were made for export last part of 20th century. Hope this helps with dating.
