I found this beautiful Indian box at the Alameda Flea Mkt today. I'm not sure what kind of enamelling this is, but it's signed 'India' along w/ some other words on the bottom. It's beautifully constructed with many screws on the bottom and bright green velvet inside. I think it's got some age to it as well.
probably a jewelry box.
Wow, I can't imagine how many hours of work (and patience) went into making it. Lovely.
thanks Anik. i know - it's so detailed and intricate. it's a really beautiful box!
I just found out that this type of engraving with enamels is known as Benares Ware. This is a particularly good quality one.
this is probably the best quality piece of Benares Ware that i have. Some of the elephant bells are good too.
