From an antiques fair I attended on Sunday, comes this stunning Victorian vanity stand featuring a glass bowl with applied flowers.
This was sold as a watch stand (looked them up, & although I found some similar items, the configuration is slightly different). The metal frame is gilt bronze, & there is a beveled mirror. The glass bowl is made from two layers of cased glass, opaque ivory over a pale pink interior. It has an unusual box - pleated top rim, & an applied floral spray with two blue flowers & four green leaves.
The bowl measures 6.7 cm tall, 12 cm across the top rim, & 9 cm across the base, which has a neatly polished out pontil mark.
The glass contains uranium & glows bright green under UV light.
Total height of the item including the frame is 26 cm.
No markings on the frame. Not sure if the bowl is English or Bohemian...I know this rare box pleat is attributed to Stevens & Williams but I believe that Bohemian makers used it as well.

I saw it and admired it. The metalwork reminds me of Bohemian pieces I’ve had myself. I am so glad you bought it.

      SPECIAL !!!

I have seen something similar in a Carl Hosch Haida catalogue I have pix of on file here in Sydney. If you email me I will send them to you.

Many thanks, vetraio50...yes, I picked it up as soon as I saw it...usually I walk around the whole fair before I decide on anything, but I couldn't hesitate on this one! And I will be in touch regarding that catalogue image...
