Another Scottish favourite of mine by the important Iona Silversmith Robert Allison. The central citrine is a gorgeous colour and is two centimetres in diameter, the brooch itself is just under five centimetres in diameter and quite heavy.
The reverse bears punched hallmarks for Glasgow 1956 (The Glasgow Assay Office closed in 1964) together with makers mark ‘RA’. The reverse pin still has a tube hinge, but now with a more modern rollover safety catch.
I would love to visit the Island of Iona one day, which I believe is in the Inner Hebrides on the West Coast of Scotland. I’m told the island has a special tranquility with a monastic history going back centuries.
Outstanding pic of this beautiful brooch :-D
You may add pics of the back too, it is always educational to see the construction and catches.
Thanks for the good tip kyratango, I am still finding my way around CW but will remember to include photographs of reverse as well!
