An iridized golden amber "diamond-quilted" glass wrapped with a cobalt blue snake coil, this striking vase stands 9 1/4" (23.5 cm) tall. The underside has an acid-stamped export mark that dates it to interwar production.
The snake seems to be a common adornment on Czechoslovakian and Bohemian glass - I'm wondering if the snake heads are unique to each glass house?
I don’t know about snakeheads being used with confidence to ID glass. You do pick up differences between both the heads and the ends of the trails.
This gold quilted glass has cropped up before. I think the jury was out last time it was discussed.
Thanks Ian - it was just an idle thought that will likely go nowhere.
The quilted glass pattern is not familiar to me on Czech glass - the export mark raises my suspicion about who made this but, for now, I'll sit with the jury.
