Baskets...I love them! And this one is the biggest & fanciest one of all in my collection. It is made from two layers of cased glass - opaque white over a deep pink interior. The white contains uranium & glows bright green under UV light. The sides of the basket are melon - ribbed, & there are three rows of alternating bumps & dimples inside the double - crimped top rim, which has a clear crest. There are four clear applied feet, & an applied clear handle formed from two overlapping thorny "branches". The whole thing has a satin finish.
It is extremely heavy & measures a substantial 30 cm tall, 27 cm across the top rim, & 25 cm across the footed base, which has a neatly polished out pontil mark.
As may be seen, it has an issue - a large chip out of the top rim, which, to be honest isn't all that noticeable as there's so much else going on.
I have seen an example of this shape of basket in Peloton glass.
I feel that it is most likely Bohemian, although I know similar pieces are attributed to British makers such as Stevens & Williams.

Wow that's one big beauty! I can say I have never seen this style of basket this large before.
Where on earth did you find it?

Sure is! It weighs a ton! :-)
Just what I needed, too...more HUGE glass. But who could refuse it? Not this little black duck! :-)
It was from an excellent shop at the top of Queen Street, Woollahra. I have had a lot of my very best buys from there. In fact I have something equally spectacular on hold there at the moment, which I hope to get soon.
I have an old reference book on art glass baskets & there is one just the same pictured in it...never did I imagine I'd get one of my own. The Peloton example is pictured in Cyril Manley's "Decorative Victorian Glass", where it was given an English attribution...but as great a book as that is for images of fabulous glass, a lot of the attributions are way off...pretty sure it's Bohemian. As is this one.

Super piece Lace! It does remind me of a Stevens and Williams basket. What I love about these pieces is the contrast of the inside vs out. : )

I just bought this basket in blue. Paid 10.00 for it. Do you know or 1 know th he value?

Well, it sounds like you got a great deal there, ccronk78. I'm sorry to say that I can't give valuations on items, it's not really what we do here on CW. Also, if you are in a different country then the value would likely be different too. This piece came to me pretty cheaply but it has some damage. If you scored a perfect one for $10 then you've done very well. Would be nice to see a photo of it!
