ESSO/Exxon/Mobil apparently started with their "Put a Tiger in Your Tank" advertising campaign in 1959 or so -- a good bit longer ago than I realized?! This little tigger can't be nearly that old, I'm guessing he's probably a product of the 1980's or thereabouts.
I rescued him from a trash bag probably 6 or 8 yrs ago myself, when helping a sister-in-law clean out a house. After a quick trip thru the washer he was good as new, and to this day he usually serves as my 'travel kitty' mascot on the dashboard and/or hotel room nightstand when I'm away on road trips.
He's only maybe 6" long and 3" wide and about 4" tall if he's kinda 'sitting up'. The tag on his butt is now difficult to read, but still does have the recognizable remains of the blue and red EXXON logo on one side, with his maker's (in China) name and his material (100% polyester) on the other.
[oh, and 'disclaimer' I guess...I have no personal connection whatsoever to Exxon/Mobil/etc in any way shape or form, beyond being an occasional customer if it happens to be convenient...]
A very nice car pet.
Oh man, I remember these. Who was it that had those tiger tail in the tank? Was it the same ones? I had some of those and a few year ago ( like maybe 1980's or something ) I was able to find a couple reproduced ones. I will post them if I can find the pics of them
I posted my reproduction Tiger tail for "Tiger in the Tank". They are here:
