This is my latest vase from Japan. Identified by the seller as an Iwata, and I have no reason to dispute that.

The inner layer is white pulegoso glass (a Toshichi favourite) with an intense cranberry layer around the base. The outer layer is clear glass and three amber glass ribs have been applied and crimped.

It has a bit of a Beranek feel to it I think, but with some Japanese style to give it a different look. I'm pretty happy with it!

I would date this to around the 1960s.

Wow, I would have thought European rather than Japanese. Love your posts -- always learn something new. :)

Rigaree decoration seems to be timeless. And still makes vases special.

Once again something different......perhaps the only certainty is that your glass will be big, and beautiful, as this is!

Thanks for noticing Fort. I've been pretty busy and struggling to find time. Calmer now (I hope!)

Thanks Anik. It certainly has a Euro vibe, and Iwata did spend time there in the 30s so I daresay had exposure to lots of glass.

I totally agree Ivonne. The ribs finish this perfectly!

I have to say it Jim: I am a collecting addict.

I have lots to catch up with here!
      Thanks for loving the vase.

Thanks Peggy. It's a tall one but surprisingly not too heavy; a lightweight amongst my Japanese glass. I think the Japanese had a go at every style. I do a world tour of glass in one nation lol!

It's an interesting piece Karen...on it's side like that it reminds me of a squid or octopus gracefully propelling itself through the ocean depths. :)

I LOVE this Karen! You know me well enough to know what i like, and this one checks all the boxes; delicious colors, the applied rigaree (which contrasts nicely with the softness of the vase), the internal bubbles and the contrast in colors. My favorite color is anything in the amethyst range, and the combination of the amethyst against white is simply gorgeous! It reminds me of a Steuben Cluthra piece but with smaller bubbles.

Spectacular and very unique, love to see the color graduation from bottom to top, and the applied decoration is very special, i understand when you mention being happy with it, congratulation and 100 fois BRAVO

Thanks as usual Rick. Toshichi had a quite loose style but still managed to show off his technique. I like this ine from him lots.
Of course being very ignorant of American glass I had to look up Steuban Cluthra. Wow they are beautiful. Thanks for sharing your immense knowledge too.

It might have helped if I had posted an example Karen… https://ibb.co/bQafc6
