The signs

In 1948, my grandfather erected the garage behind our house. Being a depression era person, they utilized everything they could get their hands on to repurpose. The garage itself is the remnants of a train station torn down. The garage actually has a basement in which the support beams are actually 1924 (stamped) Carnegie steel railroad tracks. His cousin worked for Royal crown in Allison park pa, so he needed insulation and a drop ceiling. The garage is insulated with 1944-46 cardboard trolley signs from Royal Crown/Warner bros advertising movies, with Shirley temple, lauren bacall, Barbara stanwyck and some fishing guy. They moved onto the ceiling which is made up of the pictures I have furnished (the pictures only show 1/3 of the signs). I wasn't really sure of the condition of the signs until I took them down. In some cases it would take 3-4 hours on one sign because they weren't just nailed up they were nailed together. But as you can see they look remarkable. Amazing what they did back in the day, those signs were no more important than a piece of wood
