      Technically this is a charcoal iron, not a sad iron. A sad iron is a solid block of metal heated on a specially made burner or on a stove top. With this iron you put burning coals, from a stove or furnace, inside it to make it hot. Judging by the casting details and the hex nuts inside I believe this was produced very recently.
