I just came across this watch at an estate sale, and I am wondering if the case of this watch is gold or gold filled. Also I am wondering what year or period this is from. I know the band is not 14K gold since it is an expandable one. Any information would help. The numbers on the bottom are 858203.

Since is doesn't say "GF" or "RGP" after the 14K, I believe it is 14K solid gold. If the case is opened up the marking inside the back can be checked, also the brass layer if gold filled might be visible. If there are any worn spots on the case where the brass is showing through, then it is gold-filled.

This style of watch was popular in the 1950s.

      I just found the following:

      bulovaspecialmarkets.com/about/faq.aspx#7?

Starting in 1948 Bulova began marking the back of watch cases with the year of the watch. To determine the age of a watch made prior to 1948, you would need to send it to Bulova service, as the only year indication for these watches is inside the casing. For watches from 1948 and 1949 the actual year is printed. After that, a letter denoting the decade followed by the digit of the year is marked. This practice began in the '50s, with the letter L. M signified the '60s, N the '70s, P the '80s, T the '90s and A the '00s (2000). So, for example, if P9 is on the case back, the watch was manufactured in 1989.

My friend has a Bulova ladies wristwatch with the following markings on the back: Bulova 14k L1 (it's white gold) and it has a serial number of 04241. There are diamonds on each of the 14 bracelet links as well as 6 diamonds on the face of the watch. We'd like some info on the watch, maybe a value. Cannot find any info on it anywhere! Thanks!
