My husband and I found this stove at a garage sale. I have been unable to find any information about it. Obviously it is not a Giant box stove as it is too small and does not have the date stamped on it. It says no. 22 on the top. I would really appreciate some information about year, manufacturer etc.
I will toss in my 2 cents here. There was a company in Ohio that had a large foundry where they made all types of cast iron stoves. ACME brand stoves like the little giant which the advertised as, "It will burn anything". The foundry was run by the Wehrle brothers and one of their biggest customers was Sears & Roebuck. In the early 1900's Sears put out a catalog that was strictly for all the different types and kinds of wood stoves they had to offer. I know there are archives of the sears catalogs available for free to view on the internet. This may give you an avenue to approach researching this item. Keep in mind that these types of stoves had been reproduced by other companies. Often you can look at the stove, the fasteners, nuts bolts and screws, if it is lined with fire brick, if it has asbestos gaskets etc. and determine the age. Looking the entire thing over inside and out, top to bottom to see if there is a foundry number.
It has certainly come a long way by the sounds of it. We are in Kalgoorlie, Australia. I will look over it and see if I can find a foundry number. Thanks for your knowledge.
It may not be one of their stoves, however they were the biggest cast iron stove manufacturer in the world and shipped stoves all over the world. They were known to use the word "giant" in their model names so that is why I posted the above.
hello. have you found any info for your stove. i have a GIANT stove that has 2 plates on the top. it is number 25. thanks for any help and info. i have searched online for days. Still haven't found it. Cheers from Girt
I have one too. I’m restoring it at the moment and looked into it a few years ago. Pretty sure it was made by the Westral Foundry in Perth.
Hi. Just seen this same stove at step dads house. He said he got it from cundedin air field after ww2. He said that there was over 100 of them left there by air force after the war. He said it was from the officer's quarters. I know of a few guys that have been apart of cunderdin gliding club that live in kal as well. Could have been relocated as most of the other relics have been. ( over 20 tiger moths as well.)
I just came across one of these stoves and wanted to know if you ever received any info on it.
I just found another in Denmark, (west Australia), interested your know more about it. Year made, of how many, anything really... Can anyone help?
Metters in Australia made a Giant that looks like this. Its in the Metters 1939 catalogue, and may be in earlier ones too, but I don't have them.
