Orange Crush is a 6 oz dated 1924
I always wondered where and who bottled Howel's in St. Louis?
I recently found an old want ad (April 7, 1948) looking for distributors for Howel's Root Beer and only a phone number was provided to make an appointment. I was able to trace the number to the Union Soda Water Co.
Union Soda Water Co. was one of the first bottlers in St. Louis to bottle Orange Crush. (Circa 1919). They also bottled Lime Crush, Howels Root Beer and there own line of flavors.
From sources off of the internet I was able to determine that a Chicago, Illinois based company know as The Julep Company was started in approx. 1916 by a Clayton Howel and Neil Ward. Howels name was associated with Howel's Orange Julep and also later Howel's Root Beer. Wards name is associated with Ward's Orange Crush, Lime Crush, and I believe there was a Lemon Crush also.
The formula for Howel's Root Beer was sold in the 1950's to A & W
The Brownie's name is Buck Purcell
