I have a badge from W.H.Kensil, Phila but could not find anything about it.
One Kensil reference I found was 1870 and 1910.
The Badge is Sterling Silver and stamped W.H.Kensil, Phila on the back.

WWI period. It was a group that found gainful employment for women & girls in Philly 1918. "Women & girls affected by war conditions" Page 470 has no image! The other reference is on page 471.

^^ THAT reference is 1913! (Beginning of the war) I assume it was to keep them prostitution and other evils. And to support themselves if fathers, husband etc. didn't come home or came home unable to work.
Here's another reference from 1918 PAge 470 is included!:

Did it evolve into the current Philadelphia Commission For Women, I wonder?
I winder what the number 4 is doing in the very top center scroll? See it?
Celine,
thanks for the research and info
I assume the #4 was a badge number that was possibly associated with the name of the person the badge was issued to. Would be interesting to know who she/he was.
:-)
