This is a large silver mercury filled glass thermometer which I have to guess was intended for usage in a laboratory of some sort. Measuring about 12" long, it is in a sturdy cardboard storage tube with a paper label reading "CAT NO. 14-990 RANGE -30 to +120 [deg]F SUBDIVISION 1[deg]" and with the names "FISHER SCIENTIFIC CO. PITTSBURGH - ST. LOUIS" and "EIMER AND AMEND NEW YORK, N.Y. U.S.A." which I presume are its manufacturer and sales agent (?) respectively.
Other than that, I don't know anything more about it...honestly I don't really even remember when/where I got it <sigh> beyond thinking that I've probably *had it* for a decade or so, at least. It looks like it could date from the 1940's or so, by the style of the label...??
