Champleve Earrings, Enamel on Copper, Arts and Crafts Era Period, Stylized Bird, Screwback, Craftsman, Antique, Art Earrings, Modernist, Rectangular.
Vintage champleve earrings, enamel on copper, image of a bird, screw back posts, made in or around the Arts & Crafts era (circa 1880 to 1920). The style can be defined as Avant Garde / modernist. The enamel colors are black and a 'rust' tone.
Champlevé means "raised field", translated from French. Champlevé is an enamel process where the surface is engraved, carved, etched or stamped with a design prior to enameling. The cells are then filled with enamel to the height of the cell walls and smoothed over. When I rub my fingers over the tops, I can feel the SLIGHTLY raised lines.
Made of solid copper, weight is 9.14 grams.
Measure 1" inch long x .75" inch wide.
Whomever craftsman created these (which I personally feel was someone important), they did not sign them. If you know who may have made them, I'd love to know!
They are in excellent condition, with some light tarnish.
No one knows? :(
