My big exciting item for this week. It is large coal and or firewood box. 2 and 1/2 feet across by close to 2 feet tall it can hold a lot of firewood.
It is covered with brass (could be copper) depicting scenes of medieval taverns and such. There are four different scenes with a bit of design on the corners. The back and inside are not covered and do show aged wood.
This box is a bit unusual as it is not rectangular. It is 6 sided with a sloped lid.
Firewood is messy and this will come in handy in keeping the bits and pieces in place. Plus it can store a fair amount of wood which will come in handy for when it rains or snows.
From what I have seen these are from the late 1800s.
Beautifully carved, what a nice find fort
Thank you very much Newfld.
Thank you very much nutsabotas6. It was for coal, firewood and tinder. That is the purpose. I think the brass covering is to keep sparks out.
Thank you

Thank you buckethead.
Love it! I for one wouldn't use it for firewood anymore. Really cool piece
Thank you very much Jeremy123. I have it inside but still have firewood inside.
