A huge (10cm) Sterling Silver modernist seagull brooch by the New York jeweller Madeleine Turner, born 7th April 1905 in Augusta, Maine. Most of her work was in silver, using living creatures as themes, but there are other examples of her designs in gold and platinum.
I think she also worked for Georg Jensen (U.S.A.) when supplies of silver items from Denmark during the Second World War were in short supply.
She exhibited six items at the Museum of Modern Art, New York in 1946 in the Modern Jewellery Designs category.
Very nice, and great marks on the back. No disputing this one!
