I'd never seen anything like this before and have no idea of its origins, though do think it to be Czech. Feel free to disagree. At first sight I thought it was peloton glass but now I'm not too sure. It may well be painted lines on orange then cased in clear.
    Has anyone seen anything similar?

Update I've changed the title to reflect the help given below. Thank you.

Yes, this is Peloton. It can vary a lot in how blended in the threads are - even with the Victorian type. Some pieces have the threads very textured, others totally smooth. Nice example! It is not often seen.

Thank you, IronLace, for sharing your knowledge and experience. It's certainly not often seen on Art Deco pieces. I suppose that the peloton décor makes it Tango Glass of a sort!

Very nice piece- think its lidded. Ive seen them compared to earlier Kralik Peleton before and I think of them as different. As I remember the older Peleton the prefab rods were two or three colored and sometimes the rods had a core color and outer color. These rods are solid colored (although sometimes they used two or three colors of rods with confetti). The technique is the same as all confetti (spatter pieces) but instead of glass bits these were broken glass rods... like spaghetti for children. I call these new Peleton- Nice Czech piece!

Thank you for the further information, kralik1928, and particularly for confirming it as Czech.

Its a beauty Peggy. I do love peloton (something I'd love to find one day). I've never seen one like this before.

I have a Tango era Peloton bowl - white with threads in cobalt, yellow, orange, & red - & as kralik1928 mentioned, this later Peloton glass used rods that have a single colour. Most of the Victorian Peloton uses cased rods with a pastel colour over a white core.
Vintagefran, I do hope that you can find some Peloton glass one day...it is hard to find, & when it turns up, the competition can be fierce! But like everything else, it can also show up at random in op shops or flea markets - I have had some lucky finds that way.

Hi, Fran You may well 'drop' on one unexpectedly......so good luck. I was the only bidder on this one.

The only bidder Peggy, how did it get passed me! I'll never get one if I keep missing them, Lol. I'm pleased for you really, it couldn't have gone to a more deserving person.

I don't know how you missed it......but it was listed as Loetz, Michael Powolny!
