I tend to agree it may be a doorstop. Hubley made Popeye cast iron doorstops in 1929. I don't remember how many sizes they made but it is well worth researching. Their originals with original paint go for over $3000.00 for Popeye. It it is unmarked it is fairly easy to tell if it is a Hubley. All you need is the height and weight. Reproductions never meet the exact dimensions of the originals. Hubley also teamed up with an individual (named Fish as I recall). They made character doorstops. If it happens to have been done during the years they teamed up that makes it even more rare. Very much worth researching. Hubley molds were sold off I think around 1949. At that time the identifying name and mold numbers were ground off and no longer had the Hubley identification. Those pieces usually (but not always) have a raised rectangle area where the name Hubley was ground off.

From the information on the same Popeye I have , it says it's for earrings.

I think it is too small and light for a door stop. Also, what is the purpose for all the holes? Wish it was a Hubley:) If it is for earrings, any idea of age of this piece and where it was made?

Thanks for posting the link. I was in hopes it would show history of the item as opposed to a for sale item. I would be interested more in the maker and history behind it.

Hi fhrjr2 I found a couple on ebay about a year ago when I was checking the one I have. I seem to remember it is from the 1980's. Manikin & Gillian's links are both great. I don't remember what they sold for. As for the maker I never did nail this down.

There are all kinds of vintage earring holders - just do a google image search, and they're everywhere. There's one jewelry manufacturer that turns up a lot of the time, but.......as Manikin says not much history at all.

Thanks all. I can find them all over the place but there doesn't seem to be a valid history behind them. Odd but not unheard of. I guess that is what keeps our interest....the research and learning.

Thanks for all the information. I was not able to fine one when I google or on ebay. Planning to list this one on ebay, so wanted to make sure I gave it correct title.

This is from the 1970-1980 time from (IMO) and was made by revere mfg, when we all started to wear pierced earring and needed a place to store them that was pretty. Very collectable now.
