This pair of Victorian vases have had a long, hard life, but still deserved a place in my collection.
Made from three layers of cased glass - clear over pink with silvery mica inclusions, & an opaline interior, they measure 13.3 cm tall, 5.5 cm across the cut, cup shaped top rims, & 5 cm across the bases, which do not have pontil marks. The vases have a melon - ribbed form.
The mica inclusions have the appearance of seaweed - I do wonder how this effect was achieved...
Bohemian origin. Thanks to welzebub for IDing these as Harrach!
Very nice. I buy things with chips depending on how much the piece speaks to me. Is it Wabi Sabi ? You could probably have the tops ground down, if it bothers you though. Very nice, and a pair to boot. Kudos.
These are by Harrach, and the decor is commonly referred to as "Seaweed". Nice looking decor....
Many thanks, rockbat. Yes, I am happy to provide a home for beautiful old things that might have a few issues. Shabby chic, wabi sabi, yes, it is one & the same. If the price is right, & the piece has charm, then I can overlook the signs of 130 or so years of facing the visscitudes of existence...
Thanks also, welzebub for the ID on these. Thought they had some style to them! :-)
