Ask "Long Tall Sally" ( she has a lot on the ball, sleeps in the kitchen, with her feet in the hall")

You didn't give dimensions but the basic design looks like what was known as a, "Poor Man's Valet Chair". Older ones had the seat quite low compared to a regular chair. They were made in 100'd of designs. Try searching, Antique poor man's valet chair. You should get images of many different designed chairs in the category.

Thank you for your input, yes this is a difficult chair to figure out and a one of a kind, I am seeking all over the internet to find answers with not much luck. Take care, again I appreciate your looks and input.

AFTER MUCH RESEARCH IT APPEARS TO BE A RARE HAND CARVED OLD HIGH BACK JACOBEAN STYLE SPANISH HALL CHAIR "PRAYER" CHAIR, HOWEVER I HAVE NOT CONFIRMED THAT COMPLETELY.

Pretty nice chair. It looks to be hand-made. The Jacobean style was prevalent in England from about 1603 to 1625, during the reign of King James I and King James II. There was a revival period of that style in the 1920's and could have originated in the U.S. as well as other countries (Spain, included).

From what I've found, this chair wouldn't match with the design specifications of the early period, so it's probably more revival or a copy of the concept. It does have the distinctive appearance, though. Without any markings, it would be difficult to narrow down. I'm sure others on this site, who have a lot of experience and knowledge in this area will help you out.

I realize that this was posted years ago, but I have a hand carved chair that is extremely similar to your chair. I am trying to find out more info on it. Can you tell me if you found out anything else regarding this chair?

Perhaps this chair is by Charles Rohlfs ,Arts & Crafts period .
