Interesting story about this painting. I've had it for a month or two now. Looks to have been painted around 1900. Looking for any opinions, or if someone recognizes the signature or style. The signature is hard to read. Any help would be great. Thanks for looking, Happy Holidays.

mp.kunst brilliant! Thank you, I am so very grateful. Now I will share the story alluded to in the posting.
I found this oil painting hanging in an antique shop. I asked the owner if I could take a look at the back, she obliged. I gently lifted the bottom to look beneath, but I couldn't see anything. So I put it back down gently. I turned to walk away so I could get a step stool and then it happened. The painting fell. I turn around quickly and tried to catch it, and I did. but the painting fell forward and onto a pole that ripped right through the canvas. Now that I know the artist I am even more upset!!! I will have to look into restoration and repairs.
Thank you vetraio and agram for the comments.
Hope you got a good price being damage and all... smiling ..nice score
mp.kunst, congratulations on an excellent id here, and in the recent past. Most impressive, especially the one on Bob Dylan.
