(1 item)
Appears to be forged metal. Two prongs, possibly to spear a potato or meat to put over a fire. Metal ring on handle is pushed forward to hold the fork up against the basket to hold the item in place. (My guess) Anyone seen this item?? Been driving me nuts for two years. Appreciate your help in identifying this object. Thanks, Ted44
Need help in identifying this forged metal item.
gofer trap.?
Roycroft may be right. I agree it looks more like a small animal trap of some sort than something you'd use to bake a potato over a fire. Doing that, you'd just have to run a sharp stick through the potato.....but, what do I know ? It looks like maybe the "forks" stick into the ground ? I guess experimenting might turn up something.
I have similar design mole traps years ago but I don't see how this would trip to get the little bugger. All I ever saw had a spring similar to a mouse trap.
What are the dimensions of it? I also think it is for holding a chunk of beef, or fish over the fire, (if it is long enough). As far as gophers and moles go, this is way too elaborate imo. My top gopher getter is a road flare in the hole, works like a charm. lol
i've seen some similar looking gopher traps. they can be incredible pests!
Kovels features a Whatsit Wednesday, you might try asking there.
It almost looks like a cooking utensil for cooking a steak over fire.. Stab the steak thru the side, squeeze against the ring and lock in position. ( I would wash it after catching gophers though.)
