Ida Lublenski Ehrlich was an author, playwright and producer, she was born on August 20, 1886 in Odessa, Russia. When she was 2 years old, her family immigrated to the United States and settled on New York's Lower East Side. She lived in Carmel, New York to the age of 99. Her first produced play was ''Helena's Boys'' (1924), which ran on Broadway. Other plays included ''Dr. Johnson,'' ''The Magic Carpet,'' and ''Alice in Fableland.'' In 1940, she founded Everyman's Theater, a nonprofit organization that produced low-budget plays off Broadway. From 1940 until 1963, she supported herself as a teacher in the New York public school system. In 1965, at the age of 79, she earned a master's degree in Hebrew literature at the Jewish Theological Seminary. In 1969, she wrote her first non-fiction work called ''Instant Vocabulary'' a reading aid which was published by Simon & Schuster.
