Does anyone know about this thimble? It says: BUY ONLY AT HOME OWNED STORES. I don't know what it is made of but does turn the rag black when cleaning. Thanks in advance for any help

I believe you will find it is aluminum. I have a number of them with different writing on them. Years ago they came free inside coffee when you shopped at the A&P Tea store. There was an entire series of them. A few years ago they sold well on eBay. Not terribly valuable unless you have one a collector needs for his/her collection. Odd thimbles regardless of age or material they are made of have appeal to a collector. We were buying odd ones (new ones) for $1 at the flea market and getting $10 to $15 on a 7 day auction. Good return on the investment. Most of what we bought here in Florida was common here but unusual in the mid west and northwest and they gobbled them up.
Thanks for your help. I have a collection of thimbles and someone gave this one to me so that is great.
