I love this! Here is the write-up that came with it:
This Art Deco Borzoi Russian Wolfhound brooch is marked 935 and Lotus. The old Lotus company is no longer in existence and this is a very fine example. 935 is the hallmark for silver of greater silver content than sterling silver. This brooch was likely made in Germany or Austria during the 1920's. The Borzoi was the favorite dog incorporated into paintings, jewelry and sculpture during the 1920's. This high quality brooch has a strong stylized design and everything about it is typical of the Art Deco Era. The black and clear colored rhinestones are all claw set . the silver work is fabulous and the finishing on the back is as smooth as glass. The overall impression of the Borzoi is of streamlining and grace with a curvy shapeliness and compact strength. The name Borzoi is translated as "fast" which describes this dog well. The Borzoi is a large descendant of dogs brought to Russia from Central Asia and is a member of the Sighthorn family which is similar to the Afghans and Greyhounds. The Borzois' coat is unique for its texture and distribution and consists of two coats: a top coat and and undercoat.
Size: 2 1/8" x 1" x 3/8" (5.4 cm x 2.5 cm x 1 cm)
So unusual and so beautiful, lucky you !~
Agree with PhilDMorris, what a lucky find!
PhilDMorris, Many Thanks!
lentilka11, Thank you much!!!
LOVE the brooch. Borzois are gorgeous dogs! In Dutch, they are a breed of "Windhond". I have smaller version of a windhond - a Whippet.
Efesgirl, Thank you! I love all dogs, but I've always wanted a Borzoi...maybe one day...
Sweet and neat deco brooch! Love Borzoïs too, they are aristocrats :-)
Kyra, Thank you!!! I haven't been on for awhile. I have to check your latest items!!
