I *think* I came across this someplace (I don't remember where) in the 1980's. Until doing a little looking around just now I would have guessed it was probably a product of the "flower power" 1960's/70's USA -- but instead online references are suggesting it is "early Tasmanian". I'm not sure whether to trust the 'early' part of that (1885 seems like kind of a stretch?) but maybe I should now treat it gently, anyway...? :-)
Measuring about 25" long when doubled (thus ~50" total) this necklace looks to have been crafted from hundreds of apple seeds stitched/strung together on heavy black thread. There is no closure or clasp. I can't imagine how tedious it must have been to make, no matter who made it or where...? <eeek>
Would anybody happen to know anything more about it?? PLEASE share if so -- I'd love to learn more about what this actually is?!!
interesting thing - someone put a lot of effort into it!
