So Pretty. I can find the company as being started in 1862 time frame. The jar has a label, the circle one that reads, Gran Prix 1889 Paris France.
The jar has no maker mark unless it is under the labels. Question, how might I learn the age of piece. With the label of 1889 referencing the Gran Prix, could it be from that time? I can not find any real history on the time from for these stoneware or Ironstone jars with lids.
thanks all
fabulous!!!
According to Google translate, the jars says it contains "salon cream for the beard."
Sorry. I misread "SOAP cream for the beard."
This Company is still is business. I am sure if you send them an email or call them they can tell you when it came out.
It's possible to be from 1889, but we can only say circa (around or at earliest) 1889. I've seen (have) products from the 1900s that have medallions on their labels bearing what awards their products won back to the mid 1800s. Any award is typically put onto the label, regardless of when it was given unless many have been given and room is limited.
But it does look to be from the 1890s to 1910 period.
As for trying to date them by lids, one of the longest running lid designs for American 'pots' (as these are called ) was Washington crossing the Delaware seen on them into the late 1800s. Many people collect just the lids.
