This was spotted today in a charity shop. It was only €2, and what I thought first was it was some kind of Native American piece but on closer inspection it’s actually Hawaiian. Obviously a souvenir, what I would like to know is the material used, it’s not wood but some kind of pourous brown stone and what it may be a depiction of?
Lovely Hawaiian tiki, they are fierce looking because hundreds of yrs ago the Hawaiians erected large figures of these (in wood, stone etc) to protect them from evil and harm
