      Hi, don't think this is a handkerchief exactly - the way one of the corners opens, to form a small pouch. Difficult to see what is there. Looks like it could be lavendar. If so, or it's filled with some other "scentfull" stuff, it's something a lady might put in her fine underwear drawer, or keep in her purse to take out when bad smells take over, hold to her face and breathe.

      Lovely lace and embroidery, probably done by a young girl - a gift for Mother,
      or relative that lives abroad. The embroidery through the lace is particularly special.

      A small query - shouldn't there be some sort of closure for the pouch? Maybe whoever was making, didn't get that far. Victorian era?

      there is a leather patch on the bottom of the round material. Yes it is lavender. Thanks for your info.
