Historic 1960's Peace Symbol Sculpture made from Basketball Hoop that was selected for a New England Traveling Exhibition of the era. According to the original owner, was made by Dale Mowry and Lydia Perkins in about 1965 as seniors at their High school in Douglas, MA. This was one of the pieces selected for a New England traveling exhibition in that period. Dale who later had some success with sculpture and stained glass, gave this to Lydia as a gift when she became pregnant (and they were clear, Dale was not the father ha ha) who then created a "Peace Garden" at her home and displayed it proudly until 1983 when Dale was tragically killed in a car crash. Nice to be able to preserve the story behind this hippie era sculpture, and that it is from New England - as am I - makes it for me all that much more special.
I LOVE your collection! You've done this heirloom a great service by sharing here!
Thank you joyfulthingsvintage!
Ms.CrystalShip - sometimes the stories are sad like this one, but I am glad I could preserve that history with it. This piece meant a lot to that family and debated about letting it go but they were grateful it went somewhere to be preserved.
