Great work on a simple portrait carte de visite

This is a simple 1860s portrait carte de visite-- made in the MILLIONS and, along with portrait cabinet cards, probably the most commonly encountered 19th century photographic style.

The photographer has added some additional treatments that make this example stand out.

First is the subtle blush to the cheeks and lips that give a life- like quality to the image. Second, and not often encountered, is the hash background that gives a slight 3D effect to the overall pose.

The photographer and artist that worked on this image is unknown.

In small period lettering is "85 Baltimore St"-- probably a Maryland studio. Initial research shows a Walzl who operated near this location but not an exact match. Hopefully additional research will pinpoint this photographer.
