Large cast iron childs toy, not sure who made this as I could not find any others like it. The stove measures 20 inches wide, 10 inches deep and is 14.5 inches high. There are a number of working pulls/doors on the stove including an oven grate, and a geared grate system to turn coals or wood ashes? The front oven door says "Floral". The top pof the stove has NO just before the stack and 8 19 after. The stove is cool, but it is also missing items including: it's legs, some ornate iron, the second man on top....and has some damage to the ornate iron work. I bought it because I hadn't seen any like this before...and I thought it was a salesman's sample.
Can anyone identify the maker? Age? Desirerability? Is it restorable? Is it worth restoring?
I think cast iron objects like that are always worth the effort to restore as long as there are no pieces broken off. My guess would be either a salesman's sample or a toy for a dollhouse. Both have been referenced as such.
I know very little about cast iron stoves, but I would think the "Floral" on the oven door might be the style/design name. Looking closer, you might find the manufacturer's name elsewhere. I haven't found a "Floral" Stove company as yet.
Just my 2 cents.
Hi RCassano, I agree that the Floral is probably a design. I'm curious why there are so many male figures (top, smoke stack, door) on it. Also, the side door has what appears as three mica windows...the door is above the odd moving grates? Two protrusions in the front control something I have not figured out yet...one may be the flue? And the NO 8 19....is it a date or model? More questions than answers. Interesting.
Thanks MacDaddyRico, I think I'll have to hit a B&N as our local libraries are weak in the collecting realm....I have a large number of collecting books, but not on CI stoves...but I am going through them just the same hoping I find something similar. I wonder if there is a CI stove collectors association?
